Odorous Ants Odorous house ants often forage for sweets and food sources in homes, restaurants and commercial kitchens. As their name implies, these ants are easy to identify because they have a unpleasant odor when crushed. Often found wandering alone, or sometimes in "ant lines", worker odorous house ants are brown to dark-brown in color, about 1/10" long.

Odorous House Ants are definitely more of a nuisance than an insect that causes direct physical harm. These ants are not known to bite, sting or otherwise attack. They are interested in finding food sources to suport their growing colonies. Unfortunately their colonies can be located in walls, under cabinets or counters, where decks meet walls, and other areas that allow fast access to explore your home or business. Sometimes Odorous House Ants will build colonies immediately behind residential siding, completely out of sight, and spraying the perimeter of your home seems to have no effects.
